Marie-Ange

Paper Artist

My name is Marie-Ange Lutz. I am a French artist, living and working in the beautiful village of Skärhamn, island of Tjörn, on the west coast of Sweden. The lights and colors of the sea and the sky, the rocks and forests of the nordic landscape have a deep influence in my work.

I have been drawn to the materiality of paper since childhood, when I enjoyed the smell and touch of books as much as their content. Later I studied Publishing and worked as editor and journalist for press magazines. After wandering many years into the world of teaching French and Web Design, I finally gathered old type and vintage presses and sat up a small letterpress studio. Looking for paper of interest for my printing, I met hand papermakers and I was hooked! After moving to Sweden, I started to make my own paper… and have not stop exploring its creative power since then. I learned the art of papermaking with Paper Master and Artist John Gerard, and Fiber Artist Jacqueline Malegni introduced me to the world of Paper/Fiber Sculpture.

I work rather intuitively and let the fiber takes the lead in my creations.

I make paper by hand using traditional tools and methods bur like to push the bourndaries to what can be done with paper The inherent beauty of the various fibers conveys a strong narative to any of my artworks, decorative papers, journals, sketchbooks, prints, pulp paintings or sculptures.

I am a member of the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA) and TKS (Tjörn Konst och Konsthantverk Sällskap)
